What is the meaning of Masha’Allah?

“Masha’Allah” means “what Allah has willed [has happened].” It is said when you see something good or beautiful — a child, a blessing, good news — to praise it while giving the credit to Allah and guarding against envy. The Qur'an teaches the very phrase.

“And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, "What Allah willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allah"...”— 18:39 (Saheeh International)
