What does the Qur'an say about brotherhood and unity?

The Qur'an calls the believers one brotherhood and tells them to hold firmly, all together, to the rope of Allah and not splinter. Reconciliation between people isn't optional in the Qur'an — it's a command.

“The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.”— 49:10 (Saheeh International)
“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided...”— 3:103 (Saheeh International)
