The Qur'an gives you words to carry for your parents your whole life — one asking Allah's mercy on them for raising you, and one asking forgiveness for them and yourself on the Day it will matter most.
وَٱخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِى صَغِيرًۭاWakhfid lahumaa janaahaz zulli minar rahmati wa qur Rabbir hamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanee sagheera“And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."”Qur'an 17:24 · Surah Al-Israa (Saheeh International)
رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْحِسَابُRabbanagh fir lee wa liwaalidaiya wa lilmu'mineena Yawma yaqoomul hisaab“Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."”Qur'an 14:41 · Surah Ibrahim (Saheeh International)
The Qur'an places kindness to parents directly beside worship of Allah, and teaches this dua to ask mercy for them "as they raised me when I was small."
